Plus ups: Black peppers and melted cheddar cheese
Plussed up rating: 7

Man, I thought I had done all of the sandwich from 1912’s Mrs. Rorer’s Sandwiches. Turns out nope. The base for the Potato Sandwich was just kind of there. Which means it was a blank canvas for plussing up. I opted for the bite of black pepper and rich, slightly tangy melted cheddar cheese.

This sandwich had such promise. Until I saw the words “sweet pickles.” Talk about a monkey wrench of an ingredient. Was able to pull out of the nose dive with a manchego cheese plus up™.

Plus up: Shrettuce dressed with olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt, and pepper

Many folks opined on why the sandwich had the words Florentine and Seminole in the name but it remains a mystery as all of them were just opinions. This turned out to be tasty even if it did call for the faux schmancy melted cheese on the outside. Plussed it up with something a little fresh and bright which contrasted nicely with the ingredients.

Very surprised how long it took me to get to this. A great example of how epic simplicity, once you get past the process of corning beef then making pastrami, can yield big flavors. Rich, slightly fatty pastrami, spicy brown mustard, and rye bread. Plussed it up with dill pickles which are usually served on the side anyway.

This recipe was clearly not created by anyone with a culinary background. The tuna salad filling would’ve me fine but not mind-blowing. The provolone and chili sauce was…odd. And the macaroni salad had an off-putting tang to it. And yes, the card did instruction to have the fillings in the specific order. Terrible idea. No plus up for you! (Saying that to the sandwich, not you. You can always have a plus up if you want)

The only hitch in the giddyup for this sandwich was adding the lettuce to it before wrapping it in foil and heating it. I’m not averse to cooked lettuce. After all, I’ve sautéed and grilled lettuce to delicious results. But this just sort of steamed inside the foil. I will say the ham and cheese was nice. The whole idea was that the sandwich could be made quickly without having to fuss with cooking an egg. So I plussed it up by cooking an egg. I say if you add the egg and the lettuce after it comes out of the over, you’ve got yourself one tasty breadkast sandwich.

Pretty straightforward yet quite tasty. Cooked shrimp tossed in a remoulade-esque sauce in a roll with butter lettuce. It was the nature of that sauce that made me want a little briny, pickley pop of capers which really did go with all of the ingredients nicely

These were some tasty chips. Weber’s Mustard is, of course, horseradish mustard. Which means I thought they might be super bitey but turns out no (which is good). They are bit salty but I like that so…

Lay’s Thai-style Red Curry Potato Chips

Lay’s is always hit or miss when it comes to complex flavors. Fortunately, at least with this bag, it was a hit. A bit of a slow build but it did taste like a Thai red curry with just a little bit of heat. It was so well done I almost forgot how whisper thin Lay’s chips are. Almost.
