Let Us Recap These Sandwiches
Hola! I hope you are doing well and staying cool this summer. Before we get the meat of the recap, I just want to point out few changes to this email/post. I had a request to add the name of the sandwich, cookbook, and year in text as the person's email reader did not display images. I thought that was a solid request so I've added that. I've also brought back links to the each video on the platforms they're on other than YouTube to hopefully make it easier for you to check out the vids.
In other news, I have handed in the final manuscript for Vintage Party Sandwiches: (subtitle tbd). It was a fair amount of work but I am really proud of it and excited for it to come out next spring. And stoke to start working on the next tour to support it. Unlike Sandwiches of History: LIVE! (which was a ton of fun) this time I plan on making and eating sandwiches with you. Stay tuned!
Ok, on to the sandwiches!

Curried Shrimp, Bacon, and Tomato Sandwich
Midnight Cookbook (1971)
Rating: 7 1/2
Plus up™(s): St. Agur Blue Cheese
Plussed up rating: 8
Hard to go wrong if you're combining curry powder, shrimp, bacon, and tomato, right? Unlike I usually do, I resisted the urge to plus it up with a top piece of bread (gotta stay fresh). Added the tang of St. Agur blue cheese for the plus up and it worked great with every ingredient.

Ham Cardinal
The Sandwich Book (1964)
Rating: 6 1/2
Plus up™(s): Dill pickles
Plussed up rating: 7
Not sure how it slipped my mind but somehow I ended up with three open-faced sandwiches this week. This one was tasty as it included a quick bbq sauce that worked nicely with the smoky ham. Plussed it up with some dill pickles althought mustard would've also been welcome.

Smoked Whitefish Sandwich
The Cook Book of Left-Overs (1911)
Rating: 7
Plus up™(s): Seasoned slice of tomato
Plussed up rating: 7 1/2
I do love me some smoked whitefish. Here it was combined with butter, dill pickle cayenne, and mustard. Personally, I'd have gone with mayonnaise instead of butter but it was still a very tasty sandwich. While it had the crunch and bright dill flavor from the pickles, I wanted something fresh. Which took the form of a seasoned slice of summer tomato. Yum.

Russian Sandwich
Summer Time (1920s)
Rating: 6 1/2
Plus up™(s): J.O. Spice
Plussed up rating: 7 1/2
The fact that this recipe came from what was a quack medicine booklet was kind of wild. Still, it wasn't bad by any stretch. Flaked cold leftover fish with some chopped hard boiled eggs and green onions, melted butter, dry mustard, and ketchup. It did feel like it needed a bit of seasoning so I opted for the J.O. Spice (saltier and more intense version of Old Bay).

Apple & Roquefort Sandwich
Cooking Menus Service (1924)
Tea Sandwich Rating: 8
Plus up™(s): Franks RedHot Sauce
Plussed up rating: 8 1/2
With the combo of tart Granny Smith apple and Roquefort blue cheese on nutty whole wheat bread, I naturally thought "hot wings!" Thus the plus up of Frank's Redhot. As a lot of folks pointed out, walnuts would be great (as a non-goofball plus up - my words, not theirs lol)

The Tanker Sandwich
A sandwich of our history
Rating: 6 1/2
Plus up™(s): Chili powder
Plussed up rating: 7
This was one of those sandwiches that everyone seems to have had at some point. Whether that's after getting of the swimming pool, or in the case of Ron who sent it in, driving a tank.

Broodje Kerrie Kip (Suriname)
International Sandwich Sunday
Rating: 10
Plus up™(s): none
Admittedly, this was a lot of work. But keep in mind, the seasoning blend, the sambal, and even the pickle would likely already be on hand. It was sooo flavorful and had different spices and textures. Absolute 10 of a sandwich. I collected links to the recipes I followed on a little page on my website if you want to give any of it a go.

Chip Star Shichimi Togarashi potato crisps (Japan)
I love Shichimi Togarashi. It's a chili pepper blend from Japan but that's kind of underselling to be honest. Chip Star did a pretty good job capturing that flavor on this Pringle-esuq crisps.

Pringles Paprika (Europe?)
I'm still not convinced there should be paprika flavored Pringles when smoked paprika is right there. Still, these were not bad by any stretch.

Deep Snacks Peri Peri Popped Lotus Seeds (USA)
These were definitely a first for me. Wasn't sure to expect but they were light with a good crunch and pretty good Peri Peri (hot sauce) flavor.
